Reason for high cost
Fewer than 100 of these magnificent trees survive in their secret location in New South Wales, Australia, and a propagation programme ensures the survival of the species and lessens the threat to trees in the wild.

www.wollemipine.com/order.php this web address has the pines a bit cheaper than $100. The wollemi pine is a member of the Araucaria family, which also includes the kauri, bunya, hoop and Norfolk Island pines. They say it a living fossil. I've seen a real one and its an unusual thing!!!!

Obviously dont know where you are, but here in South Australia they are sold in quite a few garden centres and nurseries (even Bunnings had them at one stage) I don't think they are that hard to find now. They are around $100 for the small ones -but I have seen them for $180.00 a bit bigger.
I would ring a well known nursey in your area I'm sure they can help.
