Their country is located in the torrid zone.If the feet is covered fully and tightly , it will sweat and the shoes will smell badly. The feet will also feel uncomfortable .The sandals are conveniednt as it allows the feet to be in contact with the air in a hot climate.Further , the countries in hot climates will be dry and will have lot of dust in the air . Most of the people use to walk and not use any motor car .They do not walk into the house with the shoes or sandls on as it will bring in the dust and all the dirt that poeople step on while walking on the road .So they must wear something that would allow them to remove easily before entering into the house .Sandals are more convenient in this respect . .

It's a warm climate so the open-weave of sandals is cooling. It is also more convenient than lacing and unlacing shoes for purposes of entering a temple and washing one's feet. It might seem to be more convenient to go barefoot but there are various parasitic diseases that one can pick up in India through the soles of exposed feet.

Many cultures that live along the Mediterranean Sea and Indian Ocean area always wear sandals. It's just part of their culture. Plus it's hot in India. Usually, you want to dress as lightly as possible.

Ur reasons are logical & seems correct..
But i feel its mostly due to the climate of INDIA.In summers its the second best thing after being bare footed. In the monsoon's its th best footwear for any1,thinking logically.
And moreover its the pricing of these sandals that makes it favourite of us,INDIANS.
Besides, that it doesnt leave the feet stinking and fuming;-)
Well, thats my reason for SANDALs being an alltime favourite with us....
