Marx emphasized the transcendence of the state ( Society, the Collective, Central government ) over the individual. Planning was centralized and the idea of a free market of individual decision-makers was anathema. He argued the position of the "workers" ( lumpen-proletariat ) and predicted that there would be a "dictatorship of the proletariat".
