A friend and I were discussing colleges, and he mentioned a particular school that he was told didn't assign homework. I wasn't sure of this, and couldn't find anything on Google about it either. Help?

Sorry, I forgot to mention: because of the highly gifted program we went to, this particular friend I mentionedand I are the type that, (at least in High School Lectures) can retain about 70% of the materials WITHOUT notes. I know it sounds cocky, but it's just how we work. Assuming we take major notes and do study groups, is it feezible to NOT have to do the majority of this reading that everyone is talking about?

Actually, many classes in college don't assign "homework", in the sense that you have it in high school. However, there is an assumption that you should be prepared before coming to class, having read the material and working problems before the class starts, so the usual estimate is that students should spend 2-3 hours preparing for every hour they spend in class.

Unless things have changed since I went to college (I am not THAT old! haha) your college grades are based on a mid term exam a term paper and a final exam. Once in a while a professor will be a douche bag and take attendence just don't take that class lol.
You will of course be "assigned" a TON of reading as "home work" and you will go to lectures as well.
Most students do not do a lot of the reading and just take good notes on the lectures and are able to pass their exams based on the lecture notes. Remember even if they tell you otherwise the professors have their egos invested in the lectures!
There will be no real getting around doing the research for term papers though.
Remember it is not high school and you don't "have" to do anything.
I got mostly A's and a few B's and graduated on the Deans honor list and only did "some" of the required reading. You have to be smart and tell the professor what THEY want to hear be it on an exam or a term paper.
Trust me hardly anyone does ALL of the "required" reading. It would be hard to even do. Not enough time in the day really.
Just regurgitate what the prof WANTS to hear and you will be fine. lol
Also, remember that most of the learning you will do will come OUTSIDE of the class room debating various issues with your class mates. Be sure and engage in this because it is fun and interesting.

I'm in college, and they really don't have any of those tedious little homework assignments that you do in high school. There are no little handouts or book work or grading rubrics to check off if you did your assignment each day.
First of all, your class won't meet everyday and there might be a reading assignment for in-class discussions, or materials for an in-class paper. But nothing is really required, unless they have a participation grade.
However, if you don't keep up with readings or lectures you WILL fail. Unless you have infinite wisdom and know everything, you will not do well at all in college if you skip out on doing the work. They don't require you to do assignments, simply because they expect that you will do studying ON YOUR OWN.
That's part of life and being an adult--doing things independently and not having mommy and daddy or your professors nag you about doing the work. It's either you are self-motivated to do it yourself and do well, or you don't and you fail.
[Edit] P.S. keep in mind that when you're in college you're not required to do anything because you are CHOOSING to be there. In fact, you are paying upwards of $40,000, (some schools even $50,000) a year to go there to learn and have a life. If you don't want to take advantage of that, then that's your own huge loss. And have fun paying off all that debt if you choose to slack off in college.
Good luck.

I've never heard of such a school :) Please do steer clear of those 'online schools' that happen to be for-profit such as university of phoenix, devry u, strayer u, kaiser u and kaplan u and instead look at the state college or uni. Former students of university of phoenix started this site: http://www.uopsucks.com
Homework is basically just to reinforce skills and concepts learned in class. Perhaps you can start out at the local community college and take one or two courses and see how it works out for you. If you prefer a technical school education, perhaps the local county vo-tech school (though please refrain from those expensive private schools :)

Ummmm... no. There are some individual professors who do not assign homework but no University has an underlining theme of not assigning homework.

I seriously doubt that any accredited college or university would give a legitimate degree without any homework.

What's the point of going to college if you're not willing to learn?

sorry no because thats how you learn. but if you don't want to do the homework you don't have to, its your grade that you'll have to worry about.
