by taking classes they may come to realize major differences in child rearing philosophy. If there is a big enough disagreement on how to raise a child, the child gets stuck in the middle of it all.

Look around.
Seriously, most people have no idea how their lives will change once they have a kid. You have constant 24/7 responsibility for every aspect of another human being's well-being and safety, and it will continue for years and years and years.
You have no idea what to do when the kid will NOT sleep at night, and you have to get up to go to work.
Your mother and your mother-in-law have different methods of handling (insert anything here), and you have no idea which one to try, because you're going to make someone mad and/or screw up the baby.
And all this happens BEFORE they can walk!
Before you can drive, you have to take a test. Isn't the formation of another human being as important as driving? Yes, but then we think we have the right to children, as though they were a commodity.

To know what to expect and how their relationship will be affected.
Agree on what each expects from the other as a parent.
Learn about hormone changes the mother will experience and what to do; how to respond.
What the needs of a baby will be (it's all about the baby, no one and nothing else matters) and the changing needs as the child grows.
Discipline; who and what.
Money. Learn the cost of baby needs including medical before and after.
Decide when, if ever, they are ready to have children.

Some adult have children of their own without ever having any prior experience with babies. This means they don't always know what to expect with having children. Classes will give them this knowledge and the confidence to look after their kids.
