Technicly race car. Though race car and racecar are both often considered correct the more correct spelling is two words, race car, the reason being is the first word is a description of the second word, a car for racing, also the alternative word for this is racing car which is always two words. When looked up in a dictionary or spell checker the single word version racecar doesn't come up normally either.
A palindrome doesn't have to be one word, groups of words and sentences can also be palindromes.

I checked WordWeb and they show it as two words. I typed in "racecar" and they defined in with two words.

There is always a tendency for closely-related meanings to merge. When I was younger we had micro-computers, which soon became microcomputers then micros. In Dickens you read "bed room". Racecar is still conspicuously American.

RE:
Is racecar one word or two?
Today we were in english class and my teacher said it was spelled race car. My whole class thought it was racecar. Is there a space or not?
Please leave a source so I can be sure.
Thanks!

It is one word in some dictionaries but it is written as race-car. Other dictionaries do not recognize either spellings. It is better known as 'racing car'.
