John Hanson (April 3, 1715 – November 22, 1783) was a delegate to the United States in Congress Assembled from Maryland. Because he was the first man to serve a full one-year term, November 5, 1781 to November 4, 1782, as President of the United States in Congress Assembled under the Articles of Confederation, he has been mistakenly called the first President of the United States. Samuel Huntington was the first President of the United States under the Articles serving March 1, 1781 to July 6, 1781 while Thomas McKean served under the Articles from July 10, 1781 to November 5, 1781.

There are several answers which are "correct"
The first President under our current Constitution was, of Course, George Washington.
The first president of the US under the Articles of confederation was Samuel Huntington from Connecticut.
The first President of Congress after Independance was John Hancock.
Each of these men could be called the "First President of America" depending on how you mean your tricky (not trick) question.
OK, if you mean who was the first president of the first continental Congress it was Peyton Randolph of Virginia. He was also president of the Second Contiental congress and was succeeded by John Hancock (first president of the Independant US).
If you want to go even farther back, Prior to the convening of the First Continental Congress, two others took place. Their presidents were:James DeLancey of New York; Albany Congress of 1754.
Timothy Ruggles of Massachusetts; Stamp Act Congress of 1765.
