The best white Christmas is for there to already be snow on the ground and it then snows again on Christmas Day. However, all you need for a white Christmas is for there to be snow on the ground so no, or very little, grass is showing. No snow on the ground or too mostly grass and a few sad patches of snow and what you get is a green Christmas.

A white Christmas is all about snow. Lots and lots of snow, on the ground, falling through the air, everywhere.
Everywhere you look is 'white'.

According to my wife who is from a place where it snows a white Christmas means it has to snow on Christmas day. I'm from hot central CA and I'm just happy if it's cold on Christmas.
