or, 2 times 3 minus the squareroot of 16 plus 4 times 3 squared divided by 6 minus 5.

im assuming you just do the order of operations. i know the answer is 3, but i cant figure out how to get it.
help me?

The order of operations is

Parentheses
Exponentiation
Multiplication and Division - Left to right
Addition and Subtraction - Left to right

2x3 - √16 + 4x3^2/6 - 5

= 6 - 4 + 4*9/6 - 5 = 2 + 36/6 - 5 = 2 + 6 - 5 = 8 - 5 = 3

It's a little hard to tell as written but I believe the question must be:

( 2 * 3) - (sqr(16)) + ( 4 * 3^2/6) - 5

hence:

(6) - 4 + ( 4 * 9/6) - 5
= 2 + (4 * 1.5) - 5
= 2 + 6 - 5
= 3
it's just doing the right bits in the right sequence.

Classic PEDMAS.
Do 3^2 first (exponent), and find the sq root of 16 (=4). From there, multiply 4x9 (=36), and divide it by 6 (=6). Multiply 2x3 (=6). Sooooo...you get 6 - 4 + 6 - 5 = 3

2x3 - sqrt(16) + (4x3)^2/(6-5)
= 6 - 4 + 144/1 = 146

I don't have your answer; but, I advise you to learn how to write an arithmetic expression next time you give a problem.
