when it is working take a amps probe and check how many amps the motor is drawing. When it is blowing breaker recheck with amps probe the motor and cap. and start switch. Note to try to narrow down your problem to 1 thing in stead of guessing.

From the description, it shounds like you have a starter capacitor that is going bad. The cap will provide a phase shift to assist the motor to start. Once the rpm's build up, then the cap is normally disconnected from the circuit. So if it isn't the capacitor, then it could be the contacts on the internal switch.

good luck.

The problem is,the centrifugal switch located at the end of the armature on the opposite side from the pulley is not fully engaging and or disengaging that switch,so it over loads and kicks the breaker.Just unplug the motor and take the side housing of the motor off and grease the centrifugal mechanism untill it works freely and re-assemble and it should work real good.Happy Holiday

Sound like a bad start capacitor......try replacing it....if you keep trying to run it like it is it will eventually burn up the stator and you will have to buy a new motor....if that doesn't work I would take the motor to a reliable electric shop and have them check the windings and "growl" the armature to check for any shorts or bad windings...
