only if the answer was well-thought out and sensitive.
mean answers like "I have no idea but thanks for the two points" deserve thumbs-down.

Depends on my answer. I just answered a question about what I liked most about the U.S. with "California." I think the t/ds are still rolling in but I'm not gonna bother to check. What's wrong with liking California? Sheesh. Pretty scenic real estate if you ask me.
Other times, it is a compliment to get t/ds when you want to gauge the moron/blocking Zeitgeist of the moment. I really don't know what I said just then.
I asked a question the other day that got deleted: It was "Can I get a thumbs down please?" There were some real zinger answers before Yahoo pulled the plug.

Yeah, I guess. Especially when I'm being thumbed down just because my answer isn't what they want to hear. It's not their question so they should mind their own business. If it showed the person who gave you the thumbs down a lot less people would do it.

Sometimes I wonder why I get a thumbs down, but it's pretty pointless to even pay attention to anymore because there are so many people on here that'll just thumbs down you for no reason. Plus, why should I care about other peoples opinions?

No, not really. Each one has a right to their opinion.
Tell you what, I realized that some people mark it thumbsdown just so theirs get picked as best answer. It might surprise you to know that I got several best answers pick inspite of the thumbsdown.
Just keep doing your community service without worrying about all this thumbsdown business. What you are doing is highly commendable.

I'm kind of new here, and it seems that whenever I put an answer up later, after an "old hand" at this or an expert has already given their reply, that I get a thumbs down.
Hmmmmm.....
(This will certainly cause a few, but, just being honest.......)

nah - got to consider the source
we have some little jerk (oooops passing judgement)
that on one spectacular question - with 12 dynamite responses -
each took off in a different direction - and all were worth
golden wisdom awards
the little twit hammered everybody - and mine, too
so - nope - no worries - - - just that little twit
and when they get their hackles raised - THEN
they report everybody
*sigh*
