Subject is the main noun of the sentence: Who or what is doing the action of the sentence. The predicate is the main verb of the sentence: The action of the sentence. The direct object is who or what is recieving the action of the verb. The indirect object is who or what is receiving the direct object. Example: John threw Mary the ball. The subject is John because he is the one throwing. The predicate is threw because it is the action of the sentence. Ball is the direct object because it is what is being thrown. If you can ask threw what? or threw who? and there is an answer, then that is your direct object. Mary is the Indirect object because she received the ball in the throw. If you can ask threw the ball to who or what and there is an answer, then that is your Indirect object. Good luck!
