Just nod & acknowledge them
I spent 5 1/2 sitting with Jack Charlton on a train last month, and it was embarassing the number of people harassing him for his autograph & sneaking hidden photos on their phones.
The guy was simply taking a journey & trying to read his paper.
Even being a 30+ year long Leeds fan I didn't ask for his autograph, I didn't think it fair to him in the circumstances.
If the circumstances had been different, if I had been at the function he was heading off to talk at for instance, then it would have been different, he was there in his celebrity capacity and fair game.

Depends. If it was someone I'm not a real fan of I would just nod and acknowledge. If I was a fan I would ask to take a pic with them.

I did nod once, but the few times I have ever seen anyone famous I just keep walking (I think that unless they are in their 'working role' it's polite to leave them be).

Wait for them to ask me about me, then i'll say something like "what do you do?" After they told me who they were id say "OHHHH now i recognize you". i wouldnt ever approach the famous. Im certain they get enough of that crap already. I get it most of the time and im not even famous. So i could imagine the amount of yahoos they encounter on a daily basis.

I'd smile at them just as I'd do with anyone. I'm just not one to make a fuss about anything.

It would be a first, I have never seen anyone famous. But if I did, it would depend on who it was. I have no time for movie or TV stars, but if I met my favourite Australian, Brett Lee, I would certainly speak to him. I hear he is very friendly & approachable.

I probably wouldn't even recognize them unless it was pointed out by someone else who they are...I'm really bad at not knowing who someone is if I see them outside of what I envision their element to be....I've not recognized a many of famous people before.

I'd secretly take a picture just to prove to friends that I actually saw them. I wouldn't make a big scene.
