First of all, they will have to be over 68 or 69 the war ended 62 years ago. They wouldn't remember anything. I'm 69 and was told very little about the war.
Someone that lived in the European countries would be able to tell you what it was like. Providing they are still alive. Finding a web site is just what I like to do.
I've included both Europe and Japan
It was a dual war for the US
I would start with the people that lived and survived the war.

hello, i am a world war two veteran. i am corporal will madsen of the 101st airbourne division, company F. i have been through the beaches of normandy to the liberation of paris. there are many stories for me to tell but i am unable to write all of them here and they are much better told in person. just exactly what do you want to know? a soldier i killed? my fellow brothers in arms dying infront of me? when your sitting in a fox holes and a thousand shells are exploding around you, dust in your eyes, smoke everywhere, the screams of hundreds of men shroud the field like a vocal mist and the stench of fresh blood and guts. you eat the same meal everyday, gruel or hard tack biscuits. a man in company E got his leg frozen off in the forest of Bastogne France because of frostbite...is this what you wanted to know? why do you people like asking these questions? i would wish i never knew these things and give it all to you, so that you may know it and i don't
