Climbing the pole and reaching the top (your goal) is always more satisfying. It's a sign of accomplishment. We must, of course, come down again, but there is always another goal, another challenge to overcome.

It all depends on where you are on the pole when you find out you are on it.

If you are near the top, would you have more satsfaction on reaching the bottom? It is just as difficult to climb down.
