sent photo to friend said it was a silk worm, how do i get rid of and where do they come from. one actually came down from the ceiling on a thin weblike string..i thought it was a spider,,, very freaked out and want to get rid of , any suggestions ,, its white with little light brown head looks like skinny magget with deffinate segments . any spray? do they come from flies or moths? i did find little shell like cacoons in the corners of the same room they were on the ceiling.

There are a number of larvae that fit your description. Likely a plant feeder. They feed on plants until mature, then drop to the ground on a line of silk and nest(overwinter)in the ground until spring. Soap and water(few tablespoons of dish soap in a pint of water). I use an old spray bottle, a couple of squirts and they suffocate and die. No need for poison. Soak the cocoons or just throw them out.

This sounds familiar -- I found these a few years ago on my off-white carpeting -- gross! I believe they were coming from an indoor plant (though how they got there, I don't know). I sprayed the plant with something (don't remember what), and after a couple of rounds of that -- no more white worms. Good luck -- I believe you'll solve your problem fairly easily.
