I believe in the communist idea of distributing wealth/capital evenly. If you open your eyes, you'll realize that the unequal distribution of wealth in the world is the source of so many problems - poverty (and thus overpopulation), oppression, wars, biased media, shallow consumerism, etc.
The only big flaw of communism is that the state has too much power. The state can violate human rights. The government becomes just another ruling class exploiting the working class. Marx theorized that once a communist society develops fully, soon there will be no more need for a state, and the state will "wither away". In the communist societies today the state doesn't really wither away, it just becomes stronger and more oppressive.
I'm actually an anarchist (no that doesn't mean a chaotic society). An anarchist society is like a communist society but with power evenly distributed (although that's too simple a definition). That is, wealth is distributed, and the government doesn't have too much power, so it can't interfere with the rights of the citizens.
In the end, though, I believe that to achieve real social change, we should change not just the political system but also ourselves - our culture, values and lifestyle.

Its a good idea on paper, but one that will never work once put into practice.
Communism - Any political philosophy or ideology advocating holding the production resources collectively.
In order to put communism into effect, there has to be a governing body of people to manage those production resources. Look at any government in history and you will see that power breeds corruption. When you speak of communism, you are advocating handing control of an entire countries production resources over to a few select people. This is the greatest power of a country. Money is what makes the world go round. The more power you put in the hands of a few people, the greater the chance of corruption. This is why communism will never work. If humans could somehow control their impulses and desires, communism would be possible, but until that time, it is a pipe dream.

It looks amazing on paper but it never works out. If you have a small group 10,000 or less it does not work because one person is working his/her butt off and another is doing nothing and they are getting paid the same. So the person doing al the works gets mad and quits working. On the other hand, China is too big for Communism, that is why they are moving toward capitalism. The Chinese government manages everything in day to day life, and since they are the largest country in the world (population) this is very hard. For example they control when families can turn there heater or air-conditioner on. In winter they wait until the southern region needs heat until they turn the heater on. And in summer they wait until the northern region needs air-conditioning. So in each season the people who need the heat or air-conditioner get screwed. Communism does not work.

It's a utopian philosophy that doesn't work because people will act irrationaly, against the common good, and greedy when it comes to power.
