the plants should align themselves correctly by growing toward the needed light.

unless of course you have them inside a house. then I'd suggest the south side.

Well, in my opinion. The best direction for your plants would depend on where the sun shines. Observe where it shines and put your plant in that direction. In that way, your plants will absorb most of the suns solar energy which they use for the process of photosynthesis.

South. It is not good to change the direction of a plant- keep it facing one way, and if you do rotate it, turn it one quarter turn each week or so.
