I live in Cumming, Georgia (30 miles north of Atlanta), and my 21st birthday is this Friday. I’m not interested in bar-hopping, casinos, and big parties. I just want to go somewhere that has a lot of history, and also some great and classy entertainment; I love orchestra concerts, theatres showing classic movies, museums, plays/musicals, etc. Also, I’d love somewhere to dine at a vegetarian restaurant, and even stop by a café to relax a bit. And, of course, I’d love to go somewhere that has a nice shopping district. I’d even like to go somewhere to try new things (like ice-skating, rock climbing, etc.). With that said, I can only travel for a two-day span anywhere in the south-east region of the US. Also to note, a buddy is coming with me.

So, do any of you have a suggestion on where to celebrate my birthday? I would love to know. Thank you to all who answer.

Savannah and Charleston come to mind. You might catch a ballet performance this time of year, if you're into the arts, or some sort of holiday musical event. Jeckel Island is a beautiful laid back place, but expensive and not much to do there.

Asheville, NC, is a great little city with lots of emphasis on the arts and quirky shopping and dining. The scenery is spectacular in the area, you probably could find some rock climbing there. They do have a symphony, but I have no idea of their schedule. You could look up the Wolfe Auditorium's website to get a schedule of events. Don't forget to have a peek on Saturday night at the Geminid Meteors in the dark sky surrounding the area.

Atlanta offers the arts and restaurants galore, but may be too busy if you're craving a quieter experience.

Happy birthday!
