SO they know you are someone to get along with, and someone who they can trust if they decide to get to know you. In everyday life, you have to accept others who you will be with during school and or work. It's what causes people to get along.

There is a very old principal that actually comes from the Christian Scriptures, but has become a part of American Societal fabric...at least up until the last half a decade or so. It is called the "Golden Rule". This principal is at the root of all successful relationships...even in the classroom. It goes something like this..."Do to other people the things you would have them do for you".
Of course, this can be extrapolated in many ways, such as, "respect your classmates' rights if you want your rights respected.

Why not respect other people's rights! Society is made up of individuals who look differently, dress differently, think differently, perform differently who must live and work together for the common good. Part of the common good is the respect for yourself and respect for others. Few have ever succeeded by being loners.

This question is only important if YOU think about it and answer it with your opinion, this sounds like homework and would take all of 10 minutes.

because if you don't respect their rights why should they respect yours? Do unto others the saying goes and it might seam simple but with out it, there would be nothing. You have to show respect to get it.
