He is a great closer, and he played a huge role in the Yankees Championships in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000. He is a certain Hall of Famer, and he is a good person as well. He is also known to be a good autograph signer. The Yankees will also retire #42 for Rivera when he calls it a career. The Yankees and the fans are lucky to have him.

I don't know about him personally, but I respect him as a pitcher. For a period of 6 or 7 years the guys was lights out, the best closer in the game.
Great player, but time has caught up to him. The Yankees paid too much for him with the new contract and given him too many years.

I very much respect Mariano Rivera. He deserves all respect. He is, indeed, a humble, respectful, and nice guy that kids could really look up to. He's the kind of guy that parents want their kids to look up to because of his wonderful character. He's also an amazing closer that will go down in history as the best closer of all-time if no one better comes along. I can't see him in anything other than pinstripes. Also, he lives in my county and the boys on the soccer team in my school got to meet him because they were playing his son's team...I wish I met him. They said that he was really nice, talked to them and gave them autographs.

Mariano Rivera is the greatest closer in the history of baseball, and a class act. I am not even exaggerating. This is the truth.
He will be an excellent mentor for the young guns in the bullpen.

I have a lot of respect for him also, I think he has been great to the Yankees, the NYC community and as you said his home land, he knows his roots and he does not forget charity begins at home, a great guy to have on your side!

He was absolutely great, in his day. It takes him 2-3 months to get it together every year now and the RED SOX solved him back in 2004 and unfortunately for the yankees that is their biggest competition. It was a huge mistake to offer him that much money & time in a contract. That will end up biting NYY in the a$$.

He is the greatest closer in baseball history. Obviously I do not know him persoanly, but everything I have read, about him, and from what I have seen in interviews, he seems like a nice guy and one of the best personalities in sports today. He is not cocky, not a showoff, he shows true sportsmanship.

Class act who truly values the opportunity his athletic talent has brought to his entire family to give them better lives. If there were more role models like Rivera sports - and society - would be better off.

I agree that he is the best closer ever, except against the Red Sox with whom he has trouble. But, he is getting a little older and not quite what he used to be.
