I know Ball Pythons are easier to maintain than iguanas and I've read up on both species. But i still don't know the personalities or how much you can interact with either species. Which could i interact with more?

Balls all a better beginner pet. because for the iguana you need at LEAST a 6ft X 4ft X 4ft and i have both. my ball is shy and doesn't like handling much but my 3 iguanas will come when called they love to take baths i can put one on a leash and take him to the park and let him play in the creek. i've taken him swimming with me he likes to suntan on the beach with me. and he loves attention he's not that agressive even in breeding season but some can be females and males which you have to watch out for because they get 6 feet and can take off a few fingers with one bite or can leave whelps from tail whips. but balls can't swallow you or anything like someone said they only get 4-6 ft long (thats not big compared to the 14 foot burmese python) so if you want easier go for ball if you want more interactive go for the iguana

Additional Details:
also to the person that said balls can be held anytime and any where. then your wrong. they can not be held during the time there suposed to shed. there not supsoed to be held till 2 days after eating. and your not supsoed to feed them till like 3 days after they shed. so you can NOT hold ball pythons anytime, anywhere and give me thumbs down i don't care but i'm trying to give this personal actually TRUE and USEFUL information.

Ball Python hands down. I worked for a while at an Iguana rescue place, and sure, you might get a bit more interaction with an Iguana, but not all that interaction is going to be pleasant. They can be very aggressive for no apparent reason, and come breeding season they're aggressive all the time. That, paired with their huge size, makes for a pretty dangerous first reptile. I'd start with the python, starting with the lower maintenance animal is probably best when figuring out if reptiles are really your thing. If a few years down the line after taking care of some other reptiles and you've done tons of research and still want an Iguana, go for it. But I'd wait till then, because they're a ton of work, every single day. There are other large lizards that are much easier to keep and have nicer dispositions, I'd research some of the smaller monitors (smaller than a Savannah) and tegus if I were you.

The iguana is more sociable and likely to "interact" with its owner. Unfortunately for an adult male iguana this interaction can include displays of aggression up to biting and tail whipping. The ball python poses no threat unless you try to hold it after handling rodents however other than slithering around on you it won't provide much feed back. That said the BP is much easier in terms of space requirements and time commitment. An adult iguana requires a cage that is a minimum of five feet long by six feet tall and three feet deep, anything less is cruel. It also requires a daily feeding of mixed veggies and fruit. When it defecates, which a healthy iguana will do at least once a day it is usually a very smelly and wet mess. It also needs to have a water dish large enough to soak its whole body in, for an adult Ig that mean something in the lines of a giant rubbermaid tub or bathtub. Good luck, hope you make the right choice.

Neither. I think cornsnakes make better first time pets then either of those species. Iguanas get large, aggressive and take a LOT of care to keep them healthy. Ball pythons can be feeding nightmares. They are the most listed for feeding problems of any species of snake I can think of. If you must have one or the other though, I would definitely go with the ball.

I have never had a ball python, but i've had an iguanas before... iguanas are tempermental, but they're good pets..... I'm going to say with the right lighting and housing go with the ball python. snakes are easier to maintain.

My suggestion to this answer would be a ball python. Although all animals, and personalities differ, A ball python will be much more docile than an iguana. A lot of people get an iguana, and then have to get rid of it because he/she gets too big, or for whatever reason. I would also suggest the ball python because they can be held anytime anywhere!!! Good Luck!

Ball pythons for sure. Iguanas can be very temperamental and are not easy to house and care for--they require a great deal of time and effort.

Ball pythons.

Iguanas don't make good pets.

If you ever need to rehome your ball python, you can. An iguana you are stuck with forever
