It covers those two moles, that small pox scar and disguises the sharp chin.

More than that, it gives me an excuse not to shave every day.

As with most men, my beard grows without any help from me, and without any need for me to be "motivated". I can't say that I feel "any different" through wearing a beard, as it has been on my chin for so long it is just as much a part of the person I see in the mirror, as my eyes or my ears.

I find that hair growing around my neck beneath my chin is rather irritating as it catches on shirt collars etc., so to prevent this, and to avoid looking too scruffy or unkempt, I still need to shave on a daily basis.

Personally, I don't like to have a moustache or other facial hair that gets in the way of eating and drinking, so I also have to shave or trim those areas quite closely. So as you can see, having a beard is not a choice made through laziness.

I don't think that I am a vane person, so I don't fuss too much over my appearance. I do think that I have a very round face however, and I guess it would be true to say that I think the light beard and moustache that I have worn since my late teen years, does help to give some shape and character to my face.

Regardless of what I feel about my wearing a beard however, I would not recommend your growing one. In my experience, they do not have an improving appearance on women!

I'm not exactly certain what it is that constitutes 'a fell beard' ...in other peoples terms.

I used to cycle all year round, and in the winter I used to let it grow. Come the spring, then I'd trim it back to a Chinstrap / Vandyke type (depends on just how I felt). And the 'difference' when cycling could certainly be felt ....particularly if I got to trimming back too early in the season.

It was once stated by a girl in my class at college, that ''I had grown a beard to demonstrate my masculinity.''

Now there may have been an element of truth in there ~ somewhere ~ but for myself, as far as I'm aware, I grew it for purely practical purposes ~ given that I can only use one hand. However, I suggested to my fellow student that ''should I become clean shaven, would it be said that am I trying to show my feminine side then?''

Are all these 'clean shaven men' in fact showing their solidarity with the sisterhood?

By the way, it can get a bit itchy every now n then, but there's a great deal of purely personal pleasure in having a good scratch.

Sash.

For me...

It's simply a way to give my poor face a break from all the metal scraping on my skin every day...shaving is a real drag...

I know women prefer clean shaven, but...the routine of it every day not only wears on your psyche...it starts to irritate your facial skin...and it's a pain in the oz...

But then...having a beard becomes a hassle, too...

(sigh)

In my own case i would say its better to have a moustache instead of a full beard. That's a lot weird cos it make you feel like a goat. Sorry to say

I have a total baby face. And since I'm already the youngest person at my job, (by like 10 years) I need something to make me seem a little older.

Many years ago when I was in my early twenties my wife bought me a fancy new razor and threw out my precious old naval issue razor. In protest at this outrage I refused to shave for the next twenty years. That showed her what for.
