I ordered my Inspiron 1420 YESTERDAY.
I called today and it said that my notebook was in the BOXING stage.
It explained BOXING is when a completed system is placed into a box with all the corresponding manuals, mouse, keyboard, etc.
Is that at ALL possible? I ordered yesterday and it's already built?
Which brings me to - the estimated shipping date - it's January 8th - about a month from now.
WHAT IS GOING ON.

They put the estimated shipping date at that time to cover themselves. I have actually had them delivered as fast as two days after I have ordered. My Dell Lap top I have now that I bought about 1 month ago I think I received it like in 3 or 4 days after I ordered it. Yes they are that FAST!!! Pretty Cool!

A 1420 is pretty much prebuilt. Just added the final items you ordered, and any software you ordered.
Estimated shipping date is to keep you from calling them every day. It'll probably ship a couple of weeks early.

24 Hours is a lot of time to get stuff done. All a custom computer needs is a bunch of parts they already have sitting around, and is largely automated anyway. They do, however, still have to go about shipping the many individual computers they have, one by one. Boxing the computer and actually getting it in the mail are two entirely different processes.

I ordered my Dell on a Friday and despite a delivery date 2 weeks later, it arrived on Monday! They are fast!

wow! I am so glad I found this post and answers. My husband ordered one for me for christmas and he waited until yesterday to place the order and they gave him January 2 as shipping date. He was so upset it wouldn't be here by christmas. ( that's what he gets for waiting so late to order) but hopefully it will be here a lot sooner.

When I got my Inspiron 2 christmas' ago it told me January 3rd but I recieved it like on December 23rd or somthing like that so it could be alot faster but i don't know, it could be alot slower.
