I cleaned out my snakes tank (like his poo poo and stuff) but it still smells SO bad!
I know I cant spray anything in there because it could hurt him
but what if I like squirted lemon juice or put some orange slices in there? Would that help or bother him???

If so, what can I put in there to make it smell better???

You can use bleach, but rinse it really well so there is no residue or smell. I use vinegar and water--safe and deodorizes. Wash every thing in the tank, and even give the snake a warm water soak to clean him. Change the substrate more often.

What kind of snake are you keeping on sand? I hope it's a sand boa. Most other species do not do well on sand as it can cause impaction, gets under the scales and can cause respiratory problems. You need to remove everything and fully clean the tank out if spot cleaning is not taking care of the smell. Wash all cage furniture, and clean the tank with a bleach/water mixture. Rinse well and dry. If you have a kingsnake, corn, ball python or any other species than a sand boa, I'd get it on shredded aspen as soon as possible. It smells better anyway and is safer for those species.

Sand is a bad substrate for snakes. Do not use any citrus because this can bother the snake. I use Cyprus mulch for my large reptiles (Burmese Python and Green Iguana) and Reptile Carpet for my Ball Pythons. To clean the cage use 1 cap full of bleach for every gallon of water, than rinse until you can no longer smell the bleach.
The smell is staying because of the sand. Hope this helps.
I raise and rescue several reptiles.

Me and my boyfriend use Bleach. I know it sounds harmful, but if you 1 cap full of bleach To every Gallon of Water used, it won't harm the snake. Once it dries, it is as good as clean. This small amount of bleach helps sanitize the cage, take out the smell and kill anything that might be in their like mites..... :) Hope you try this!!!

Remove the substrate, and spray it with a mixture of betadine and water.
