Hi. I am looking for a good site that has free instructions on learning how to tat....a free ebook would be perfect, too. I need beginner's lessons that illustrate exactly what to do, how to do it, and teaches the general principle of tatting.

(and please don't say google it. obviously, i've tried and it didn't help much or else i wouldn't be asking)
Thanks!

Thanks everyone! I printed each link.

For Christmas this year I didn't have much money, and someone in my family is wanting to learn tatting. My brother has purchased the supplies, and I offered to come up with all the turorials and patterns. This was exactly what I was looking for! If I could pick more than one best answer, I would! Thanks everyone!

I just looked through the link Caboose posted. It's *excellent*. I was going to recommend getting Tatting: The Contemporary Art of Knotting With a Shuttle (ISBN: 0442203780) by Rhoda L. Auld through interlibrary loan.

It's important to begin learning with two colors of thread. Caboose's link should do what you need. If it doesn't, then find Auld's book somewhere.

He sounds like he's young in the faith. We all start out young and sometimes when we're still in the beginning parts of our journey with Christ we can make mountains out of mole hills and vice versa. His questioning about holidays is a reflection that he's still grappling with parts of his fairly new found faith. His desire to grow and learn more is also a sign that something significant has happened to his soul. Regarding tattoos, it was an Old Testament command to the Israelites to not mark themselves with cuts like other peoples of their day did as a sign of being committed to their gods. Circumcision was the mark of the believer back then whereas baptism is the mark now. But that is another story and I see your point. It probably feels hypocritical to you to have him tell you not to celebrating holidays or whatever while it appears he's not honoring other parts of his faith. I think the deeper issue is one of control. It sounds like he's becoming passionate about certain aspects of his faith and is crossing a line in insisting you should practice the same things he does. I don't think divorce is the answer. Having watched my parents go through one recently I can tell you it's one of the most painful and difficult things people can go through and the pain and hardship of solving conflict pales in comparison to the pain of divorce. Counseling would definitely help you guys maneuver through this "roadblock". You may need to be direct with him and define what your feelings, beliefs, and wishes are - telling him what you will do and won't do when it comes to holidays, etc. Doing so when you're calm and not worked up over this will help him see your point, especially if you share in a respectful manner. As a Christian, my opinion is that you are under no obligation to take your husband's beliefs or practices of course but it would help your relationship if you disagreed with him in a respectful attitude and gave him the freedom and space to work through some of his new found beliefs and required the same freedom from him. You are free too to be yourself. I think the hardest part of marriage is the living out together as a team while at the same time giving each other space and freedom to be different and hold different beliefs, tastes, etc.

Yeah, that first link is awesome. In one of the lessons she's mentions the "tatting flip"--that's really important and tricky. I still haven't gotten that yet.
