Weak Battery and/or Starter! Bad Cables and Connections at Battery, Starter or Starter Solenoid!
Battery; If 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 Years or looks Swollen (Shorted) on the Sides Replace It! If Battery seems Good "Load Test" (15 Seconds at 50% of CCA) to make sure it will Take & Hold a Charge!

the compressor being locked up is probably not the only problem here although it probably is locked up. When you're cranking the car the only thing that usually stays on is the head lights Not the compressor clutch. The primary ignition system does not let voltage go to the clutch while cranking, to make starting easier. If it was only your compressor locked up it would not affect the starting unless the compressor clutch was not wired right, It's probably in the wiring as well as the compressor being locked up. You can easily check to see if the comp. is locked up by turning the center part of the front of it to see if it turns by hand. If it does it's not locked up. Since the primary ignition does not engage the compressor clutch while cranking it most likely the compressor locked up as well as the clutch not wired right. Try checking voltage to clutch while cranking with air on. If it gets 12 volts while cranking it's not wired right.

Actually a dragging or locked A/C clutch can prevent the car from starting. If the battery is weak, or the starter is also dragging, it may not provide enough torque to crank the engine over.
