I don't think it is necessarily a "bigger deal", but rather more people know who Vick is then they do the name of the 19 year old that was a selfish b@$tard and did such an arrogant act. I am more appauled by the mall shooting, but I am more pleased that Vick remained alive to accept his punishment LIKE A MAN. The coward from the mall shooting killed himself because he was a coward.

Honestly, I think that timing has a lot to do with this. The Vick scandal is certainly more sensationalized given his celebrity. The local news here covered the Omaha shooting a lot more than they did Vick, and I am in Connecticut, so has nothing to do with regional news. We also heard a lot about Vick and his water bottle at the airport. Anna Nicole Smith dies, and this is seemingly more important than other news.
A bigger deal? Celebrities are, sadly, always more 'interesting' to the media. What about the soldiers that are losing their lives every day? Don't they deserve more focus than they are getting?
Reporters run stories on things that they think we want to hear, things that will increase revenue.
It is a horrible thing that Vick did. He should be punished accordingly. He got 23 months.
Put the shooter, had he lived, on trial and sentence him...he would get a whole lot more than 23 months for shooting people like he did.

Both are big problems. The right to privacy provides anyone from doing anything to help the fatherless kid with his problems until it's to late and the sad facts come out. Vic was a super star in the eyes of alot of people interested in football and that he was black look to him as a great person. Black people don't talk and anyone else knows to keep your mouth shut unless you want problems. He also had a problem, no amount of money or laws were going to stop him from doing what he want to do, bad or good. They are different in ways, but not really, both kids had problems they couldn't or wouldn't try to correct.

No, they both equally should fry. The father should get death.
Vick should have gotten the whole 5 years. Dog fighting is horrific and anyone participating in it or a spectator of it should see jail time.
I am not some PETA nut, but how we treat animals is a prelude to how we treat humans. It is indisputable science.
Vick himself said he was exposed to it as a child. That should make my case right there. If children see this, they then think it is acceptable behavior.
The idiot that shot up the shopping mall. Do you think he ever tortured an animal? Bet you anything that he did.

again, totally agree. It's quite sad that some people care less about PEOPLE dying daily but when it's an animal, its like you stepped in a war zone. I would like to know how much time these people spend at a human society trying to find homes for this animals.
But i've come to learn through this whole Vick ordeal that people seem to care more for animals then humans.

I don't. This child should never have had a gun in the first place. As for Vick, he needs therapy. Hopefully, others will learn from this, and not repeat this horrendous act.
