I have noticed this too with most cigarettes.
Here is the answer from Phillip Morris:
PM USA’s cigarettes with banded paper technology have rings of ultra-thin paper that are applied on top of traditional cigarette paper during the paper making process. These rings act as "speed bumps" to slow down the rate at which the cigarette burns as the lit end crosses over them. The idea behind the banded paper technology is that the cigarette is less likely to stay lit or more likely to self-extinguish when left unattended. PM USA believes that cigarettes made with banded paper technology do not increase the known health risks of smoking.
Because banded paper technology makes cigarettes more likely to self-extinguish during normal smoking, some adult smokers may find cigarettes made with banded paper technology to be less acceptable than cigarettes without banded paper technology.

Your best bet is to purchase your cigarettes at the duty free shop before you leave the country. They are manufactured in the US with our tobacco. The Marlboro's in Jamaica are from Venezuela, so the tobacco is sweeter, and does not have as many fillers like in American cigs. All I can tell you is that moving from American smokes to the others for a week, is like transitioning to cigars, you will be DYING for a real smoke by the time you get back. Also, packs of smokes at a resort run $7-$9 a pack!! YIKES!

Its the way all smokes are made and have been for years. Because people fall asleep while smoking and burn down the house all cigs are made to go out in a minute or so if not inhaled. We smoke Marlboro and live in NY and they are the same as yours.

They put something in them to make them stay lit if you're not puffing on them, not the other way around, so I don't know why yours aren't staying lit (unless they took that ingredient out, which they used to say was salt peter... not sure if that's true).

My sister says the same thing about more cigs, she says they go out the minute you lay them down for a second, who knows.

I'm not sure but my mom's cherry always falls off hers [she is in Ohio] but when in North Carolina, it never does that. It's kind of weird.
