A VERY interesting Question !!!
First thing I did after reading your question, was 1. get another cup of coffee, 2. went outside to sit on the porch,3. smoke a 'cancer stick' / 'coffin nail' - cigarette, 4. think this over, 5. think of the future professional needs.
At 69 years ol' and a retired Metrologist dealing with a very broad array of engineers, geologists, etc. I would recommend that any younger person find out their capabilities / aptitudes and then consider :
Nuclear Engineering (yes, there will be more 'nuke' plants built, starting in about 5 years), GEOTHERMAL Engineering, Geology, Seismology, International Business Relations, Banking Investments, and if a university education is not available ( A TERRIBLE PLIGHT IGNORED MY OUR POLITICIANS), I would recommend any of the 'Professional Trades' i.e. : welding, pipe fitting, instrument techs & fitters, electricians(commercial), plumbers(especially commercial),
these kinds of trades, which will be in need in the future.
Just because someone does not have a 'sheep skin' does not mean that there are limitations for a very gainful employment- self respecting positions available, now and in the future.

A tradesman like an electrician or plumber, with their own business. Tradies are becoming rare, and they charge astronomical amounts of money for their services. I think as the generation of computers, more& more people are heading in that field and the every day nececcity jobs are becomming less.

This is a tough one... There are many avenues to travel that are truly noble. I believe the arts to be the best. For the Arts (i.e. music, painting, poetry... ) is the international language. What other field reaches more people.

i think the military is a good choice, you get trained, you get to travel, you learn discipline, while getting paid for it, and if you dont want it to be a full time career it gets you off to a good start.
