They've always had my votes, but no amnesty is my top issue.

I'm not sure but amnesty certainly is something we should not grant.

We should not reward people that break the law.

We should also be controlling our borders, building a fence/wall on our southern border, enforcing our immigration laws, mandating English only, forcing assimilation into our culture, limiting legal immigration to skilled workers, and eliminating the mis-intrepretation of our Constitution by ending the baby anchor's (ie, making children born in the U.S. automatic citizens. It makes no sense that children born here from people who are not protected by our Constitution get citizenship. Should an American visiting France whom gives birth have their child be a French citizen? Of course not, it makes no sense.)

So, at the end of the day, if the Republicans advocate these positions most Americans will relate to them because they are all based in common sense and what is in the best interest of the nation and all Americans.

Considering that 80% of Americans do not want amnesty, I would say that would be a big 10-4

LA Times/Bloomberg Poll from 11/30 - 12/3/07

"One proposal that has been discussed in Congress would allow illegal immigrants who have been living and working in the United States for a number of years, and who do not have a criminal record, to start on a path to citizenship by registering that they are in the country, paying a fine, getting fingerprinted, and learning English, among other requirements. Do you support or oppose this, or haven't you heard enough about it to say?"

Support: 60%
Oppose: 15%
Unsure: 25%

ABC News Poll from 9/27-30/07
"Would you support or oppose a program giving ILLEGAL immigrants now living in the United States the right to live here LEGALLY if they pay a fine and meet other requirements?"

Support: 58%
Oppose: 35%
Unsure: 7%

They probably didn't change anybody's mind or swing any votes. Everyone already knew that was the official party position.

Hope so! Anyone that is against amnesty should never vote for the dems.

They began picking up votes the moment Hillary and Obama became front runners for the Democrats.

The one who says he will build a fence and make English the official language of America has my vote.

I am tired of having to press 1.
