how long does it take to produce a real one? I always thought it was thousands of years. If so, aren't authentic diamonds limited? Wouldn't the value of diamonds increase?

Not 'man-made' ones either...sorry I didn't clarify that.

Diamonds can be made artifically and are actually produced in commercial quantities for abrasive applications. These are small diamonds that are too small for jewelry. Natural diamonds form under intense heat and pressure (like they are made commercially). It may not take thousands of years to form but it may take thousands of years or longer for the rock that they formed in to make it close enough to the surface of the earth where somone can find it. Natural diamonds are actually not as rare as you might imagine. Their value is controlled by commercial interests.

Can anyone really tell between a real diamond and a fake now and days?
