There are several kinds of Scavenger Hunts possible including physical hunts and Web Hunts. The physical hunts can include tasks to perform as well as items to find.

You might include items which require a student to do research to understand what is required. Like asking for two or three different items of Calcium carbonate (limestone, marble, sea shells, egg shells, etc.)

Some items could be simple, like asking for measuring devices (scales, rulers, yard or meter stick, thermometer, etc) or items made from cellulose.

Some typical items would be:
Cube shaped crystal (table salt)
A sphere of metal (ball bearing)
An object with one side (student needs to make a Möbius strip)
It floats in air (helium balloon)
A pure element (many choices, including the Mercury in a thermometer)
A pure compound (again many items)
A homogeneous or heterogeneous mixture
A liquid which has a density less than 1.00 (floats on water)
A mineral containing... (pick a metal)
A common oxide (rust, Al2O3, etc.)
Something containing Sulfur (or any other element of your choice).
An item which can be stretched (spring, rubber band, etc.)
