A roller skater is comming at you very fast. It does not look like he can avoid you.

You hold up your arms, with your hands facing towards the skater.

THIS is an intuitive gesture. You don't "think" about it. Your own intuition tells you that you don't want to expose your head or face to direct contact with this speeding object. Your body, simply, reacts by putting up a defense to ward off the skater.
