The United States has been blessed with many outstanding presidents. Some served their four or eight year term well and made great contributions to this country. Some continued to serve the needs of our country even after leaving office. I think that is what makes presidents like Jimmy Carter stand out. He could have spent the rest of his days fishing, golfilng or whatever he liked. Instead he rolled up his sleeves and started building homes for Habitat for Humanity. He has represented us in many, many peace efforts world wide and has earned the respect of many nations globally. Thank you President Carter for your continued contribution to this great nation. You are one of the best.

according to US historians in a CSPAN poll FDR was the second greatest president in US history. I agree. He inherited the great depression with 25 percent unemployment and when he died which was 12 years after he took office unemployment was like one or two percent. He created the middle class and provided the foundation so America could be the world's superpower.

EDIT: Correction - he was ranked third not second.

FDR did the best he could in the situation he was put in. Maybe he went a little too far with some of his programs, but at least he attempted to improve our country, something that seems to be missing in politicians today.

FDR faced a situation and offered solutions, in that way he is completely different from the present day members of the Democratic party.
