My furnace is a gas hot water system. Lately when it comes on I can hear some water running in the baseboards . It does it for maybe 2 minutes. Seems to be heating ok but wondered if this is normal?

It's OK. The water travelling through the pipes will be heard for a few minutes at start up. You might want to check the system for air. Bleed the radiator/s that are on the last level of the house. Sometimes this will alleviate the running sound

You should not here the water . You have air , need to bleed, If you go down to your boiler. You will find a faucet looking valve usually over the pump with a shut of valve over it. Shut the valve open the faucet with a bucket or garden hose attached leading out side. Wait a few minutes you should here air spitting out. When done close facet open valve.

Perfectly normal - it means your system is working fine. We have an oil furnace/forced hot water system, and it's the same for us.

It's probably not the water you hear, it's air in the system. Bleed the system of air.
