it's not a good strategy, because you get the wrong answer!

To add 1/2 and 1/3 find the common denominater (bottom number) which is 6 in this case, and convert the fractions into the corresponding number of "sixths" then you can add directly:

1/2 = 3/6 (since you multiplyed the bottom number by 3, you need to multiply the top number by 3 also). You can see that 3/6 is the same as 1/2.

1/3 = 2/6 (since you multiplied the bottom number by 2, you need to multiply the top number by 2 also) You can se that 2/6 is thesame as 1/3.

Then add:

3/6 + 2/6 =5/6

-Its wrong, u must find commom denominator 1/2+1/3=3/6+2/6 so 5/6, 6 is common denominator

NO ; you have to find the lowest common denominator and then add them.

1/2 + 1/3
= 3/6 + 2/6
=5/6

Dude your answer is wrong.........

You have to find the least common denominator which is 6.
So take 1/2 and mutilpy it by 3/3 which give you 3/6.

Then take 1/3 and mutiply it by 2/2 which gives you 2/6.

Add 3/6 +2/6 which equals 5/6.

not for me. i find a common denominator. in this case, 6, so 1/2=3/6
1/3+2/6

2/6+3/6=5/6

You find the common denominater, which is 6
Then you would times the top number by what ever would give you 6.
So pretty much what you said!!!!!!!

it's a lot easier to just find a common demoninator and change the fractions, add them, and reduce. that's easier than all of your multiplying.

dude no! u just add them straight across so you'd get
2/6 then simplify it and youd get 1/3!!

common denominators are easier in this case.

but calculators are best.
