Software only protects the PC it is on, and since your son's PC does not connect to the web via your PC, it goes straight to the hub, it will not be protected.

Yes, a virus on his PC could indeed infect yours .. and your PC could infect his .. as could anyone else connecting via your hub (WEP encryption, assuming you have it turned on, is better than nothing, but a knowledgeable computer user can break it in less than 2 minutes .. )

I suggest install a Firewall on both PC's (Zone Alarm is a good choice) and anti-virus on both PC's ... charge your hub settings so it's not broadcasting it's existence to the world (your PC's have to be set to 'connect even if SID not found') and look at how to setup improved security.

NB> The other day a friend asked me to sort out his new wireless as it was 'running real slow' ... whilst diagnosing the problem I turned his hub off to move it closer.
However he was able to continue 'browse' the web OK ..... it turned out he had connected his PC to his neighbors Hub by mistake when he had first set it up (guess what ? his neighbour's Home Hub had been setup with exactly the same 5 letter WEP key "bthub" !!!)

You'll need to install it on both computers. Many viruses will try to infect any other computer on the same network (e.g. if you allow the infected computer to have write access to files on your computer), so potentially yours could be infected by his.

of course not, the program is install on YOUR computer.. it has no connection to his.

anti virus programs for the most part are not needed anyway, they slow down your computer and cause more trouble often.

if you really need to "protect" his pc, get AVG anti virus
