I agree on Toto.Freedom implies liberty and in societies with greater freedom, people can choose their vocations, professions, business and any other source of livelihood and wealth generation and have the scope to use their capabilities without many restraints.Freedom encourages entrepreneurship,research/inventions,competition in the market and all such human en devours are highly conducive for overall development and wealth-generation.

Yes, I do.Most of the 'wealthiest' societies are those that have the most personal freedom. By 'wealthiest' societies I mean the average wealth throuout the whole society. Some very 'Un-Free' societies have great personal wealth, but it is held by a small percentage of the population. There are some notable exceptions--many of the 'Oil-Rich' nations are quite limited in personal freedom and yet are very wealthy., but overall I feel there is a direct relation between wealth and freedom.

wealth brings freedom, and freedom brings wealth. HOWEVER, these are not direct correlations and has to be understood by taking account of all related variables.
Read Amartya Sen: development as freedom
also freedom is an old philosophical concept which is not easy to measure or even identify! too vague a concept! Mr king is right to call for need of clarification.

the basic principle is that effort saving technologies provides mankind with more time free for the same amount consumption. That is we produce more without working more, and also we can produce/consume more and work less.

INCREASED FREEDOM OF TIME OCCURS WHEN THE INCREASE IN WEALTH IS THE RESULT OF BETTER PRODUCTIVITY: WORKING LESS FOR SAME OUTPUT

HAS TO BE UNDERSTOOD IN TERMS OF MARGINAL FREEDOM AND MARGINAL WEALTH RATHER THAN ABSOLUTE NOTIONS

Agree. Free from the constraints of oppressive government, but protected by strong government from the dishonesty of others, people are free to undertake activities as they please. On their own people will invent things to make their lives easier. They can then sell these things to others, creating wealth for themselves and contributing to the peace and ease of the other. This is the process by which wealth is created and productivity growth is realized and freedom is what makes it all possible.

Depends.

Materialism is much more of a burden than you think.

I was happier living without electricity and running water and rampant consumerism.

And Wealth doesn't mean money. I always thought Bangladesh had a wealth in spirit money can't buy.

Agree, but only because the repressed are't allowed to get wealth. Someone takes it or refuses to give it to them. Isn't that kinda what America was founded for? At least one of the reasons?
