Everybody here has probably spent a conspicuous amount of time doing exactly that.
The best part of my sessions is that they start as technical: looking for specific stars, spying the Milky Way... and always, the gazing breaks down to interstellar concepts and reviewing astrophysics - which almost immediately transcends to just looking, gazing.
The excuse is that I'm looking for the Space Station, and it is strange that I've never seen it. Hmmm... must keep looking.

Yes. Sometimes if things get to crazy in the house I just go outside for a few minutes and look at the sky. It doesn't make me forget my problems, but for just a moment they seem a little farther away.

Sidney -

Sure - especially up north, where the stars are so bright and there are so many of them that it is the way it used to be everywhere before we built used car lots with all-night lighting systems. Breathtaking is probably a good description of it - on a cool autumn night with Cygnus flying down the Milky Way.

Yes!!! sometimes when im in stressed or feel deceived i just step outside and gaze at the stars. what i first thought is that stars were just white. but then when you look closely it looks like they sparkle and turn into different colors. its just beautiful, especially when i think of that "one girl" ....
