What's the oldest age you have heard of a woman having a baby and what age (starting from) do you consider it late to be starting a family?

I am 33 and have no kids yet and I went to this job interview once, and I was even younger than I am now, 31. And this lady who interviewed me assumed I had kids. She said "who will look after your children when your at work?". I said "I don't have them". You should have seen the face on this woman... like it was a criminal offence to be over 30, without kids. LOL

I had my 1st and 39 and 2nd at 41.
42 is not considered old these days. Not a big deal at all.

For a first baby, the oldest I know of was 45. She married late and thought she was in menopause. Big surprise. Baby is about 15 now.

While I agree that starting a family in your 40s is a little on the late side, it still works if you and your partner are still in good health. People are very different. Some should never be parents, no matter what their age.

My grandmother was 52 when she had my uncle (the youngest of 7). He was 29 when she died (she was struck by lightening the year before and died from complications from that).

I'm an older first time parent I was 39 when he was born. I've heard of a 65 yr. old lady being invetro. and had healthy babies. Why in the world would she do that beats the hell out of me.
Well, in all honesty I believe a lot of women are opting to have children later like my age or older due to them wanting their careers first.
Any childbirth can have it's share of complications but, they stress that the older u r the more chance of birth defects can occur. Down Syndrome for 1.
I think if the woman is in good health she should be ok to have children at an older age. I just tell myself if I waited any longer I'd be collecting my social security check when my kid graduates high school. LOLOLOLOL

To each is own. Good luck and congrats to your Cuz! Best wishes to her and her little bundle of joy!

Women have been having babies later in their lives forever. It is just getting more notice now. Most likely because of the media explosion over the last decade or so! Now everyone can know/see everyone else's issues! Some babies born to older mommies have certain issues taht the medical profession deems due to 'advanced maternal age' (usually 35+). Younger moms have age related issues also, so I guess you have to pick the risk that is acceptable to you!

There's no such thing as late to be starting as family, as long as they will be enjoying their family having a newborn baby, with so much time, they will not notice the time and their age, I'm sure they'll feel so much young at their stage and point right now.
And 42 years is not that old at all, this is just the beggining of a new stage to her and surely she'll enjoy.
Extend my goodluck to her and her family.

I had my 1st at almost 21 and just had my 6th on mothers day at 36. I say if everything works then your not too old to have a baby.

I was 39 when my daughter was born. I know quite a few women who had children in their early 40's, and I have a coworker who's mother had her last baby at 49.

That's not old at all.
I'll bet you she is a wonderful mommy too!

My grandmother was 45 when she had my uncle- she thought she was having menopause. whooops! He was number 10 and my mom was number 2. We grew up to be very close and still are because he is only 3 years older than me.
