We just moved into our new home about 4 months ago. We have a GE Profile Built in Microwave. There is a metal square "plate" on the right side wall of the microwave. Somehow it has gotten a small hole in it and whenever we turn on the microwave, there are major sparks. Do you think I need a new microwave (which is about $450 new ) or do you think this is repairable by sears? I don't want to waste a $60 home service fee if I need to just get a new one. Thanks!!

I am also a mother so I NEED a microwave for bottles and quick lunches.

the microwave itself is from 2001. We have lived in this house for 4 months.

Yes, the sparks come from the hole and it IS burnt around the edges. UGH!

Didn't GE JUST recall a whole slew of fairly expensive microwave ovens of the built-in variety?

Do a web search using: GE microwave recall

Not to frighten you, but the reason for the recall was potential fire.

In the meantime, for the $60 service call, you can buy a new, but small microwave to keep the household running.

It doesn't sound too promising. Do the sparks come from the hole? Is the hole show burnt around the edges? Generally the cost of repairs to a microwave is more than the unit is worth...and the unit will probably fail again. IT SHOULD NOT SPARK AT ALL!

Take a moist washrag and sparkling off the seize. If that would not help, purchase a sparkling one. they're on sale at WalMart.....GE for around $60. you will adore the hot microwaves. a great number of outstanding useful components. make useful it comes with a turn table so which you will now no longer might desire to tutor nutrition. by way of ways, microwaves do no longer final long. I cook dinner on a regular basis with microwaves and that i will get approximately 3 years out of them.

If it's under warranty, it would be worth the 60 dollar service fee. if it does need replaced, they will take care of that for you. All GE appliances are covered for one year.

If it is a plate seperate from the oven its self, you may be able to order a new plate from GE.

Good luck.

Call a Sears repairman and ask about it. If it is only 4 months old it should be in warranty.
