California Grizzly Bears went extinct in California in 1922. They are still exist in other parts of North America, but are extinct in wild California and probably will never be successfully brought back. They were killed off by settlers and indians because they were a threat to human lives and livestock. A picture of one remains on our flag.

Sabre tooth tiger once lived in California. Check La Brea tar pits to find other animals that once lived here that no longer exist.

The California Condor, It was almost extinct, but breeding programs have helped to increase numbers somewhat. They are endangered, but not extinct.
