Trying solving the equation (x^2 + y^2 =1) for y.
You should get y=+/- sqrt(1- x^2).
Put this in your calculator as two separate equations:
y=sqrt(1- x^2)
y= - sqrt (1- x^2)
This will give you the graph of a circle

Well first off, you should really not use a graphing calculator until you truely understand the concepts behind what your putting in the calculator. Trust me, after going through the equivilant of calc 5, the concepts are important.

Now, the reason it didn't work is because your graphing calculator does not accept y as a value, only x. When you type in an equation it has to be in the form y=.....so instead, try rearranging your circle equation into the form y=.... so you get:

y=sqrt(1-x^2)

and

y=-sqrt(1-x^2)

That will plot you a circle.

most calculators graph functions, y = something, so you have to solve your equation for y:

x² + y² = 1
y² = 1 - x²
y = ±√(1 - x²)

that's 2 equations. y = √(1 - x²) will give you the top half of the circle, y = -√(1 - x²) will give you the bottom half.

you can not graph it on the calculator because when you solving for y you have to answer which are the negative and positive, and each of them give you only half a circle. also you can only graph y on the calculator.
