that Christmas came around and there was no doll under the Christmas tree? And it suddenly hit you that your little girl was growing up for real? I remember that first time and I felt so sad that there was no doll under the tree for my daughter, she had passed out of childhood ... and time was moving too fast.

Yes, I have had this moment. With both my daughters, actually! It does hurt as I miss those bright eyes all anxious for Santa!

It is sort of a "right of passage" as it does bring the reality that they are no longer little girls and are turning into young women.

I miss my babies!

I was blessed in having my first granddaughter born just 11 weeks after my last daughter. So the grands just keep coming. Lately though the dolls have been Curious George monkeys for grandsons. We are expecting a grandson at the end of february and another granddaughter the first of may so they do just keep on coming. In fact I've kept a hand puppet doll I bought to place in my last daughters crib before she was born and I still get it out and we all play with it several times a year.

Our daughter didn't ask for that many dolls when she was
growing up. I remember a few Barbies, and the others that
went in that collection and she had those. And she had one
larger doll that her grandma gave her. I didn't think about her
passing over into another age group, like that. Recognition
came, when we had to worry about transportation from home
to a middle school further away. So no, I wasn't sad. She had more things on a list to look for, to replace the doll period. LOL.
Luckily, she had two grandmas' who spoiled her, because I
sure couldn't keep up LOL! That's what grandmas' are for,
aren't they? LOL.

I think my step daughter wanted Carharts and a hunting rifle. But still she is a great mother and a beautiful woman inside and out. I miss her in lots of ways but she is only a phone call away and again that doesnt change how we feel when they do leave the nest. The phone is not as good as a big mug of coffee on a summer's morning porch. But we adjust I suppose and move along with them in whatever way we can.

They come to us as little birds but much too soon they fly away.

Merry Christmas Isotope!

My little girls never cared much for dolls. Such tomboys. It is sad that time goes by so fast and now my girls are developing lives of their own. The best memories are that of decorating the tree, baking cookies, and their favorite: decorating gingerbread men. I still remember stringing popcorn and cranberries with my mom. That was a year that there wasn't much of anything under the tree.

I really disliked dolls and never played with them but every year I got another one. What a waste! I had 4 daughters and only one was interested in dolls.

I had my kids make a Christmas list for me,Like ever year and there was no toys on it this year,I was at the store when it hit me that my kids are no longer little anymore. They ask for video games and cd's and Movies and stuff like that.It was a sad day for me.My Son Got married in Oct and it was one of the hardest days of my life to give him away ,even though I gained a Great Daughter in law,we danced together and they snapped a picture of me crying ,I had my Son when I was 15 and he was a gift to me from God and then to see him all grown up was so hard on me.

My girls were tomboys too, so dolls were not much of a factor. My middle grand daughter that's a whole different story. Her mother continually swears she's not vacuuming up Barbie high heels but has no idea where they are...lol, I'm betting the dog at them...ah well.

I know what you mean. I loved buying dolls for my daughter, esp the baby dolls with the extra outfits, they were so cute. I see them in the stores now and think about those days. Time does go by so quickly, but she will always be my 'baby'.
