Avoid the free version of an anti-virus called AVG. Mostly noobs, the naive, the computer illiterate, and children use AVG Free. People of their ilk love AVG because they say it is easy to use and almost never bothers them with any pop-ups or warnings. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it hardly ever finds any virus to warn them about!

THE BEST ANSWER IS KASPERSKY INTERNET SECURITY NOT KASPERSKY ANTI-VIRUS IT IS A LIGHT SOFTWARE NORTON WILL MAKE YOUR PC SLOW AND AVG ONLY UPDATES MAYBE ONCE A WEEK BUT KASPER SKY HAS UPDATES ONCE OR TWICE A DAY AND ARE ONLY AROUND 150KB'S. KASPERSKY.I.S HAS PARENTAL CONTROL FOR WEBSITES+FIREWALL+POPUPBLOCKER+ANTISPAM FOR OUTLOOK+ANTI-VIRUS OFCOURSE AND MORE IT'S ALL IN ONE AND DOESNT MAKE UR PC SLOW AT ALL IT IS A VERY LIGHT PROGRAM I HAD NORTON AND I HATED IT BECAUSE OF HOW SLOW IT MADE MY LAPTOP. AVG ISN'T GOOD BECAUSE IT'S FOR FREE UPDATES ARE ALWAYS OLD UNLIKE KASPERSKY.

NOT Symantec/Norton. AVG is ok. McAffee has become a resource hog. I'd suggest looking into Eset's NOD32 or Kaspersky.

i think symantec's norton is the best, it is also the software that has a long history/ experience in making computing safer. it is also one fo the strongest, at some point that it makes downloading somewhat difficult. i don't use it because it is very strong. i use trend micro's pc-cillin. it is not as strong, but i think it is just right for me, as i still haven't encountered a reason for me to replace it.
