No we are winning in Iraq and even if the Democrats succeed in winning the election they will not pull out of Iraq, that is just something they are saying so they can try to win.

There is a big difference In Vietnam every reason for going to war was accomplished. We stopped the Communist expansion in Southeast Asia.

In Iraq every reason for going to war was made up then replaced by another false reason.

I sure hope we leave with a little more style than Vietnam. That was a mess.

Well, im not sure but it definately started the same way. In both cases the government scared people into supprting the wars. In the Vietnam war it was the fear of commmunism and the domino theory and in the War on Terror it was the fear of terrorism. 6 years into the Vietnam war it was obvious we were loosing and now 4-5 years into the War on terror its obvious that the only difference being made is to the amount of humans that exist.
It looks like its going the same way, so why cant it end the same way?

That depends, the majority of Americans here at home in the late 60s and early 70s were wimps and couldn't handle the war. That is looking true today. The enemy isn't capable of defeating our military but the majority of America's civilians are the pathetic weak link.

Sadly we have to play by the "rules" and the opposition/enemy doesn't. There is no way to win such a war. Perhaps the next time we go to war, we will forgo worrying about what the rest of the world thinks and friggin annihilate the enemy, and expand the territory of the USA.

WAR is UGLY, if we're gonna go, we ought to at least try to win...

No, it will end worst. It will end up costing us 5 times what we paid in Vietnam, and will produce zero results.

All offensive wars eventually end with invaders withdraw.

It could but hopefully it won't. We are making progress (toward what I have no idea). We are paying with lives and money and our country is no safer than before.
