I heard a rumor that Ovechkin won't resign with the caps because he has been carrying the caps weight.

Ovie isn't a UFA for a few years so he's a Cap for a while yet and even running away to Russia won't change that. He could force a trade though. I'm sure a good 20 teams would cough up a first rounder, a vet and some cash for him.

I'm sure someone might risk it and I thought it was 4 picks. I was saying he could force them to trade him simply by pulling a Yashin.

He has no choice. The Caps own his rights and can match any offer from another team which they would. I guess he could sit out or defect to Russia, neither of which I think he would be willing to do.
The Caps made an attempt to improve in the off-season so it is not like they are not trying to get him help.

He doesn't have a choice. The Capitals have told him that they will match all offers he may receive.

If he chooses not to sign, he'll be playing elsewhere...and if he plays elsewhere without resigning, the Capitals maintain his rights until he is 29 (7 years experience, or 29, whichever comes first is the trigger for UFA)

Well, he's a pretty flashy guy and in no way averse to any form of spotlight.

The lack overall team talent and local hockey culture in the DC area may be tough for a young, impatient star to swallow.

I've heard the same thing and I wouldn't be surprised if he won't re-sign. They've given him zero support and expect him to win and go to the playoffs. I'd say "screw you" too if I was given a team job/assignment with no support.

I've heard that too.
But I don't know who to believe and what to believe anymore.

I honestly don't even know.
