Because the first taste of love is so raw and empowering, and it was the gateway to the emotions and experiences you will eventually share with someone for the rest of your life.

That's so true, and it's really simple and complex at the same time. The reason we can't forget our first love is because it's our first exposure to something really really beautiful and great. For example, I think everyone here will agree with me that the first time you ride your bike without training wheels is much more exhilerating than just an average ride in the park. When we're in love, we experience a feeling that we associate with a person.. so, if the first time you experience something is the best, and you're associating that with a person, it's hard to not think about your first love.

the plain and simple answer is because they were first. They were the first to create that certain memory, thus thats the memory your brain is comparing other more recent memories to. Plus... sometimes maybe its better not to forget. I learned from my first love, I'll never forget him and I'm glad i won't. Smile and keep your head up!

Because the experience changed who you were-- -forever. It shaped the way you view love/sex/relationships with every man you've ever met since. Why would you want to forget? It is a part of what made you who you are today.

I remember my first love just as if he captured and stole my heart just yesterday. He had brown hair. No wait, I think it was black. And he had the brownest eyes. No wait, maybe they were blue. Oh well I do know that he had 2 eyes. And he had the most beautiful name. It was John. That doesn't sound right...
Maybe it was Jeff. Now that I think about it I'm sure it was Joe.

I wish I could forget the first one! But I can't forget the one who got away.

Because you freely gave your heart out to them. You shared these unforgettable feelings with them you never had experienced before, even if you had it was nothing like with the one you loved. Than when there gone, you still have the memories of the feelings to have you remember them. With the new boyfriends the feelings are not as special with them because they are nothing new (Unless you do do new things with them.)

We remember emotional events. Not intellectual ones.
Usually the first lover is a huge emotional event.
