I have a friend who has a bachelors in business administration and a masters in healthcare administration. She's frustrated because she can't find any jobs except high-level clerical positions. She's also annoyed because all of her associates with only bachelors degrees are being offered management jobs, almost with no experience. Do you think she's being turned down so much because she's overqualified, not enough experience, or is her extra education seen as a kind of threat? Thanks for your insights.

I believe its not enough experience. Many people come out of college with good and high degrees expecting top notch jobs. Its not really like that in the real world. You start at the bottom and work your way up. When you have better degrees then you start a little higher, but you still need to work your way up. Accept the high level clerical position as Healthcare Administration is a clerical position degree anyways. Then once she has experience she can start applying for management type positions.

Another thing is how does she come across during interviews? That is also important.

it could be that the area you are from doesnt have a whole lot of openings for her education. she may have to relocate to get a job she wants. with her level of education people should be knocking at her door to hire her. use internet tools like monster.com or talk to a professional hiring agency they may be able to find some places looking for her expertise. best of luck to your friend, ben

Is she willing to relocate. Might it be because she is a "she".
